The two-octave set of Schulmerich handbells, donated to First Congregational Church of Pittsfield by Leha Varney and the Varney Family in memory of John Varney, was dedicated in a special musical service July 18.
Members of the Varney family from as far away as Ohio were in attendance to observe the event.
Family members read a dedication tribute to present the bells to First Congregational Church and Nella Hobson, director of the handbell choir named JuBellation, accepted the handbells gift on behalf of the church.
JuBellation performed four religious songs during the service, to include “In the Garden,” which was a special request of Leha Varney.
Members of the Varney family as well as handbell choir members received the well wishes of the congregation at the completion of the service, after which a fellowship hour was enjoyed featuring a special cake.
